How helpful is a fundus camera for fundus screening?

Compared to using an ophthalmoscope to examine fundus lesions, fundus cameras have advantages such as being intuitive, accurate, and easy to use, providing more valuable references for ophthalmologists.

As a key step in diagnosis and treatment, fundus examination holds an important position in ophthalmology, and its significance is not limited to the diagnosis of eye diseases. Due to the rich variety of arterial and venous blood vessels in the fundus, fundus examination has become an important basis for monitoring various systemic diseases.

In traditional diagnostic methods, doctors find it difficult to make accurate and objective analyses of fundus lesions through visual inspection and subjective judgment. Therefore, the introduction of advanced optical instruments and computer-assisted systems in clinical practice has gradually become a new trend in the industry.

It fully affirms the role of fundus photography technology in clinical diagnosis: "What we commonly see in clinical practice is diabetes. The number of diabetes patients in China is increasing. Currently, diabetes examinations are equipped with conventional fundus cameras, which are very efficient. In addition, many patients in internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics, and gynecology also need to undergo fundus screening."

According to a research report from the American Diabetes Association, nearly all type 1 diabetes patients and over 60% of type 2 diabetes patients will develop retinal lesions within 20 years of the onset of diabetes, making early observation and screening significant. In addition, conditions such as arteriosclerosis, hypertension, nephritis, pregnancy, leukemia, and anemia can also cause changes in the fundus, indicating a broad application space for high-level fundus photography equipment.

Non-mydriatic technology makes fundus examination more convenient. In response to real-world needs, the popularity of fundus cameras is significant for medical institutions, doctors, and patients. Currently, non-mydriatic fundus cameras not only help patients quickly complete bilateral examinations but also avoid the pain and inconvenience caused by mydriatic medications, making them a choice for screening retinal lesions.
